Summer is here — and that means it’s time to get out of the house, take a family vacation, enjoy a ‘staycation,’ hit the beach, visit a museum or maybe even all of the above. We’ve compiled a wide assortment of the fun times to be found here in our area and elsewhere in the Sunshine State.

We recently caught up with High Springs native Jamie Davis to check in on his burgeoning music career. Born in Gainesville and raised in High Springs and Branford, Davis is currently hard at work on his second solo album. He can be found playing in music venues throughout the area, and – if things go his way — perhaps even on National Television.

Spring is here along with some noteworthy festivals. To celebrate Newberry’s Watermelon Festival, we recruited a member of the Tower Publications family, Neil McKinney’s 3-year-old daughter Blake, to pose for our cover. The watermelon was almost too heavy for little Blake to hold, so her parents sliced it up into more manageable pieces. Read all about the Watermelon Festival as well as High Springs Pioneer Days and Alachua Spring Festival in this edition.
